Frequently asked questions
When choosing to marry abroad there are always questions that need answering so here is a small selection of the most frequently asked questions that we get asked
Q, Where can I get married overseas?
We can arrange your wedding in any of our featured destinations.
Q, How much will it cost me?
Clearly, this depends on the requirements but the average cost of a wedding overseas including an exotic honeymoon for 2 is around than £3,000. This is a fraction of the cost of a UK wedding today.
Q, Is our marriage legally recognized in the UK?
Yes, our overseas weddings are registered in the country where they take place and are then legally recognized in the UK. If you do not live permanently in the UK, please check with your own local authorities. Weddings in the USA, Australia and the South Pacific are available to all nationalities. Some THG weddings are only available for British passport holders, such as Thailand and Bali. If you are not a British passport holder, and in exceptional circumstances additional documentation and translations may be required.
Q, What legal requirements are there?
The legal requirements vary from country to country but in general you must be over 20 years of age (21 and 23 in some destinations). You will need your British passports, original copies of your Birth Certificates and documentation regarding your previous marriage if you are widowed or divorced. Full details will be supplied at the time of booking and complete guidance will be given by our experienced sales staff.
Q. Can we change our wedding date after we have booked?
Yes, simply let us know and we will try to change your date, if we are able to, there is a charge of £25 for each wedding date change to cover administration costs. To cancel a wedding the charges are as follows:-
Prior to 56 days before departure - £100
55 - 22 days - £250
Less than 22 days - 100% of wedding package price
Cancelling or changing your holiday, cancellation or amendment charges will apply as per the holiday brochure.
Q, Can we invite guests to our wedding?
Of course, simply let us know how many guests will be attending, and we will be pleased to make their holiday arrangements. If the wedding couple are staying at an All Inclusive resort, guests not staying at the same hotel will need to buy a one day pass to attend the ceremony, certain number, gender and age restrictions may apply. If guests cancel, cancellation charges may apply.
Q, How do we transport our wedding outfits on the flights?
We recommend wedding outfits should be packed in a hard suitcase and they will be placed in the hold of the aircraft. You may wish to contact your airline for further information. Generally there is no extra baggage allowance for wedding outfits. Although what you choose to wear for your wedding is of course a personal choice, please bear in mind that some destinations such as Thailand may require appropriate attire which conforms to local customs.
Q, When can we be married?
In most destinations, your wedding ceremony may be conducted Monday to Friday, excluding local holidays. In Las Vegas you can marry 365 days a year. In some countries, local festivals and holidays will determine available wedding dates.
Q, Can we tell our friends and family our wedding date?
Yes, in unusual circumstances there is a possibility your wedding date could change, for example if the Celebrant has to change his schedule or maybe because of adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Please be aware if your family or friends are planning to attend your wedding, or produce stationery or gifts showing your wedding date or if you are having jewellery engraved.
Q, Where will our wedding take place?
Generally, your ceremony will take place in the gardens of the hotel where you are staying. The hotel wedding coordinator will show you the locations, there may also be a wedding gazebo at the hotel, you can often have photos taken on the beach after your ceremony. If your wedding is booked to take place in a public area, this will be re-confirmed with you while you are on holiday, subject to local regulations. We have no control over and may not be made aware of renovations planned to take place in public areas.
Q, How do we book optional extras?
When you have booked your holiday we will send you a questionnaire and a price guide which asks for all the information we need to arrange your wedding. This is the best time to let us know which optional extras available in most resorts and we have listed them in the price guide sent out with your wedding forms. All prices for optional extras will vary from hotel to hotel and are for guidance only, all payment will be made locally in resort.
Q, What is included in your wedding?
Wedding prices are per couple, per wedding and will be confirmed at time of booking where the price will be guaranteed. Free weddings may not always include the same items as paid weddings and are not usually combined with hotel special offers unless specified. All items included in your wedding will be confirmed at the time of booking.
Q, Who will conduct our ceremony?
The majority of our weddings are conducted by a marriage officer whose title varies depending upon resort. Where it is possible to be married by a Minister, the ceremony will be non denominational unless otherwise stated.
