Florida Travel Information
When visiting Florida it is important to plan which destinations you would like to visit. Public transport between major cities like Orlando and Miami are well served, but rural cities and coastal towns may well cause transportation problems. The easiest way of getting around in Florida is to hire a car. Travelling from East to West normally takes a couple of hours, whilst travelling North to South could take anything up to a day. The main interstates are well signposted, and speed limits vary from 50 – 65 mph. Some highways may well charge tolls, so ensure you have plenty of change handy. Alternatively you can purchase a “SunPass” which is an electronic way of monitoring tolls. Car hire companies will offer this service, but check their terms and conditions as it may well be an expensive option.Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Is located 6.5 miles south east of Orlando. Travelling from the airport to Orlando via SR528 is a partial toll road, so change will be needed to pay the requires tolls. Passengers not wishing to drive, transfers to all areas of Orlando can be arranged from GBP25 per person return.
Sanford International Airport (SFB)
Is located 20 north east of Orlando and can be reached via the I4. Sanford is mainly served by charter airlines from the UK. Transfers from the airport to Orlando can be arranged for passengers not wishing to drive.
Miami International Airport (MIA)
Is located 12 miles west of Miami's South Beach and is conveniently located within close proximity of Miami's major expressways. Miami is also the gateway to the Florida Keys, and many of Florida's southern Gulf Coast resorts. Visitors to Miami are recommended to arrange airport transfers and collect their hire cars when leaving Miami, due to the expensive car parking charges in Miami.
Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Is located only 5 miles west of downtown Tampa, and is the main gateway to Florida's Gulf Coast cities and beaches.
