Massachusetts' native seafood will always play a starring role in both the state's ethnic cuisines and the local food vernacular. Boston is a series of ethnic neighbourhoods, each with a delicious culinary tradition. The North End is Italian food heaven, home of Mamma Maria with its cozy private dining rooms. After dinner, everyone heads to Mike's Pastry on Hanover Street for decadent cannolli. The go-to French restaurant in Boston's South End is Aquitaine A Vin Bistro on Tremont Street. At Boston's Quincy Market, built in 1826 and located at the historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace, a 535 foot long food hall is filled with hundreds of delectable choices. Roxbury, one of Boston's liveliest neighbourhoods, specialises in African cuisine, and where else to find soul food but in a church? The United House of Prayer (lower level)is the place to chow down on fried chicken, ribs, and collard greens. On Blue Hill Avenue, it's Poppa B's for Southern comfort food, and Merengue for Dominican specialities like grilled red snapper fillet. Flames in Mattapan, offers pigeon peas, jamaican curried goat and oxtail.
Just Outside The City Cross the Charles River to Cambridge, offering every flavour of every nation. Stop at Helmand near Kendall Square for Afgani cuisine. Elephant Walk in Porter Square, offers Cambodian and French dishes, with many vegan and gluten-free choices. The Middle East Restaurant in Central Square has belly dancing on Sundays and Wednesdays. In Havard Square, try Sandrine's Bistro for French-Alsatian dishes such as Choucroute or Tamarind Bay for Indian specialities
