Hanoi - Halong Bay - Ho Chi Minh City -Mekong Delta - Siem Reap

Day 1: Hanoi – Arrival

Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the morning is free. In the evening, watch a performance of the renowned water puppet theatre, an art whose origins date back over a thousand years.

Day 2: Hanoi – Sightseeing – Bac Ninh – Hanoi

After breakfast, visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex containing his Mausoleum, humble former home and the One Pillar Pagoda, followed by the Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake and the bustling Old Quarter. Afternoon drive to Bac Ninh, the cradle of traditional Vietnamese music and theatre. On arrival, take a horse-drawn cart down country lanes to visit the Dinh Bang communal house and Do temple. Enjoy local folk songs before returning to Hanoi.

Day 3: Hanoi – Ha Long Bay

Drive to Ha Long Bay. Board a refurbished wooden sailing junk for a cruise through the hundreds of islets of Ha Long Bay. Enjoy a seafood lunch and a swim (weather permitting). Afternoon visit to a grotto before dropping anchor for the night on Ha Long bay.

Day 4: Ha Long Bay – Boat Cruise – Ho Chi Minh City

Spend the morning cruising through the limestone cliffs and emerald waters of Ha Long Bay before arriving back at the wharf in the early afternoon. Return to Hanoi stopping enroute at a ceramics factory. Transfer to Noi Bai airport for the flight to Ho Chi Minh City. On arrival, transfer to the hotel.

Day 5: Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels - Sightseeing

Drive to the remarkable Cu Chi tunnels outside Ho Chi Minh City. During the war “Viet Cong” guerrillas built this labyrinth of narrow tunnels, using them to hide in during bombing raids and as a base to launch surprise attacks. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon for a half-day city tour including the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Chinatown, Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Temple.

Day 6: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be Bartering – Tra On

Drive to Cai Be and take a boat to the floating market to practice the age-old art of bartering. Use the sweets, sugar, milk, etc. that are supplied to barter for different kinds of local fruits and produce. Continue by river to see a family-run business producing a local version of popcorn and rice paper before boarding the riverboat Bassac. Cruise to Cho Lach, passing heavily laden river barges. Take lunch onboard then continue on the water. Stop for brief walking tours of villages lining the river banks. Dock at Tra On for overnight stay onboard the boat.

Day 7: Tra On – Cai Rang Floating market – Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City

Early morning, leave Tra On market for Can Tho city. On arrival, transfer to sampan to explore the colourful and bustling floating market at Cai Rang. Later, cruise through narrow canals and stop at a fruit orchard to taste some of the succulent fruits of the region. Visit the Binh Thuy ancient house before returning to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 8: Ho Chi Minh City – Siem Reap

Transfer to airport for flight to Siem Reap. On arrival, transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, explore Khmer temples from the early Angkor period. Visit the Roluos group of temples dating from the 9th and 10th century, including Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei temples. Return to hotel in the early evening.

Day 9: Siem Reap – Angkor Complex

Begin exploration of the ancient city by entering Angkor Thom via the South Gate. Continue with the ruins at Bayon, Baphoun, Phimeanakas, the Royal Palace, the Elephant Terraces and the Leper King Terrace. In the afternoon, visit magnificent Angkor Wat with its extraordinary architecture and bas-reliefs. End the day with a spectacular sunset viewed from the top of the mountain temple of Phnom Bakheng.

Day 10: Siem Reap – Angkor Complex

After breakfast, proceed to the graceful 11th century Temple of Shiva – Banteay Srei – and the Banteay Samre temple. On the way back, view Bantey Kdei with its rarely seen sculpted female deities, the Lake of Srah Srang and the impressive Ta Prohm Temple, which remains in the clutches of the enveloping jungle. Visit the Ta Keo, Chau Say Tevada, and Thommanon temples before returning to the hotel.

Day 11: Siem Reap – Departure
