Bali Wedding Formalities
For guests marrying in Bali there are no restrictions to how long a couple has to stay in Bali, however we recommend guests stay around 7-10 days in order to process all documentation.
For weddings in Bali the following procedures need to be followed:
- Customers need to obtain a Certificate Of Non Impediment (CNI) from a UK Registrar before travel. The local authorities will accept the certificate after being endorsed by the British Mission overseas where the civil marriage will be performed.
- On arrival in Bali the wedding couple will be escorted to the consulate in Denpasar to complete the relevant consulate forms with both signatures. The consulate will then endorse the certificate and the following documents are required:
- Original Valid British passport(s)
- Original CNI issued by the UK Civil Registery office
- Original Death certificate of former spouse and/or divorce decree absolute certificate - where relevant certified copy is acceptable
- Consular fee of £109.00 per person (subject to change).
Deposting an Indonesian Civil Marriage Certificate with the General Register Office (GRO) in the UK.
There is no provision and legal obligation to register overseas marriages in the UK. Any overseas civil marriage cannot be registered to the GRO in the UK, you can however apply to have your Indonesian marriage documents deposited with the GRO in the UK with no time limit. Applying this service through the consulate in Indonesia where your civil marriage was performed and registered, does not affect the validity of your marriage in the UK. The benefit of applying this service is that you can obtain the certified copies of your Indonesian marriage certificate/book without applying to the issuing authorities in Indonesia.
Once deposited, it is kept permanently by the GRO and the original document cannot be released. The GRO will write to you to inform that the document has been deposited and advise you on how to obtain a certified copy. The certified copies issued are black and white photocopies of the material they hold and not presented in the form of a British style marriage certificate. A consular fee is chargeable of £34 per couple for this service (subject to change).
