  • Description

It is rare to be able to stay at a resort that allows you to enjoy the highlights of the country you are visiting without having to travel further than its grounds. Sabah’s remarkable natural attractions include a complex rainforest, glorious beaches and stunning wildlife, especially the orangutan – found only in Borneo and Sumatra.

Secluded in a lush 400-acre exclusive beach resort and flanked by two mangrove-lined rivers with no immediate neighbours, guests staying at Rasa Ria will not feel crowded with holidaymakers as the resort buildings are spacious and stylishly decorated with tropical ambiance and enhanced with local accents.

Rasa Ria is the only resort with a beachfront wedding pavilion and sunset pavilion in Kota Kinabalu, ideal for destination weddings. There is a stunning Coast function room with floor-to-ceiling beachfront windows and a 749-square-metre grand ballroom and outdoor venue that can cater to 550 guests.

There are styles of room types from which to choose from Garden Wing and Ocean Wing, each promises a sense of comfort and luxury that combines the traditional local touches with modern facilities such as ethnic style artworks, wall mounted wide screen television, complimentary Wi-Fi and broadband connectivity and international satellite channels.

We have the perfect accommodation for honeymoon, suites for long-staying guests, interconnecting room for families travelling together, a Premier Room for stay-cations and, of course, views of the manicured tropical garden and of South China Sea.

  • Bars & Restaurants

Rasa Ria’s Malay name aptly means “A Taste of Happiness,” and this description certainly applies to its restaurants, which offer guests an extensive range of options. Other pulling factors that make one yearn for a return visit include the gastronomic options available, which will satisfy the most discerning of palates as well as the many outdoor activities that will satisfy even the most adventurous of spirits. Oceano, the Italian restaurant strikes a contrast with the laid-back hawker-style fare offered at Makan Street at Tepi Laut Restaurant. Alternatively, one can choose to dine at the resort’s award-winning Indian restaurant – Naan: Flavours of India – or enjoy a simple yet elegant teppanyaki dinner at the new Kozan restaurant, whereas those preferring a casual vibe can opt for the Coffee Terrace. The ideal spot to witness the sunset is Sampan Bar while Lobby Lounge is the prefect venue for after-dinner drinks.

    Additional Information

Following 20 years of joint management between Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) and Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa (RRR), the Orangutan Rehabilitation and Conservation Programme has ultimately reached a successful conclusion. The wildlife conservation programme at Nature Interpretation Centre continues, and there are plans to expand conservation education and activities whereby visitors can trek deep into the nature trails with the rangers to learn about exotic plants native to the area as well as the indigenous wildlife living in the 64-acre Nature Reserve.
