One place which is a must visit when you're in Laos is the capitol Vientiane. Vientiane is considered to be the smallest capital in Southeast Asia and is also known as the City of the Sandalwood. It is the largest city in Laos situated along the curve of the Mekong River. The city’s places of interest are concentrated in a small area in the commercial district and can easily be explored on foot. The city offers a laid back pace of life, lighter traffic compared to other Southeast Asian cities and less modern infrastructures presenting a relaxing, authentic feel. One of the most prominent landmarks of Vientiane is the Patuxai or Victory Monument. It is a huge monument on Lang Xang Avenue which resembles Paris’ Arc de Triomphe. 

Another area to visit in Laos is Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is located in North Central Laos, about 428 km north of Vientiane. The city is situated on a peninsula formed by the Mekong River. Here you will be surrounded by an oasis of peace and untouched natural beauty. For a pure authentic Laos experince, why not attend the daily ritual of the monks, who collect offerings (often in the form of sticky rice) from the local residents every morning. This is a unique tradition as Laos is the only Buddhist nation where this ritual is still preserved.Whilst in Luang Probang you can also visit local ethnic villages such as Ban Xangkhong which is well-known for weaving silk. Visit the beautiful Kuang Si waterfall or admire the sunsets at Wat Siphouthabath.
