Day 1: Arlington 
Welcome to Washington DC! After your arrival, pick up your rental car and embark on an exciting adventure. Your home for the next three nights is a charming hotel nestled in the heart of Arlington. Once you've settled in, take the opportunity to explore the vibrant Clarendon neighbourhood, where you'll be spending the night. Clarendon offers a unique blend of urban energy and local charm, boasting a plethora of diverse restaurants serving delicious global cuisines. Whether you're in the mood for a culinary adventure or simply wish to unwind, Clarendon has something to offer everyone. Enjoy your first night in this hip and lively part of the city.

Day 2: Arlington
Get ready for a day of profound exploration in Arlington. Begin your morning by paying your respects at the hallowed Arlington National Cemetery, where history and honour converge. Afterwards, take a contemplative stroll through the magnificent Air Force Memorial, a tribute to the brave men and women of the United States Air Force. Your journey continues with a visit to the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, a solemn space that commemorates the 184 lives lost during the tragic events of September 11th. For lunch, head over to the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, where you can enjoy a variety of culinary delights at the food court. Recharge and refuel for the afternoon's adventures. In the afternoon, make your way to the iconic Marine Corps War Memorial, offering sweeping views of Washington, DC, and the National Mall. Adjacent to the impressive Netherlands Carillon, this site is steeped in history and provides an excellent vantage point for capturing the city's grandeur.

As the day turns into evening, dine, and unwind in the vibrant atmosphere of Crystal City. Savour a delicious dinner and indulge in refreshing drinks while soaking in the local ambience.

Day 3: Washington DC
Today, bid farewell to your car and fully immerse yourself in the heart of Washington DC. Begin your day on a sweet note with a visit to Good Company Doughnuts & Café in Ballston, just around the corner from your hotel, where you can savour delicious doughnuts and a piping hot cup of coffee. Afterwards, hop onto the efficient metro system for a short ride into the heart of the nation's capital. Your destination is the Smithsonian Metro Station, your gateway to the iconic National Mall. This expansive green space spanning over 300 acres hosts some of the most revered landmarks in the country, including the White House. Explore at your own pace and take advantage of the hop-on, hop-off bus to customize your itinerary. Whether you wish to marvel at the monuments, soak in history, or explore the charming Georgetown neighbourhood, the National Mall offers it all. Later in the day, make sure to visit The Wharf, a recently developed area that showcases a lively waterfront atmosphere, dining, entertainment, and shopping options. As the day draws to a close, catch the train back to your comfortable hotel in Arlington, reflecting on the incredible experiences and sights you've encountered during your day in the nation's capital.

Day 4: Alexandria / Mount Vernon
Say your farewells to Arlington and set out on a picturesque drive to the enchanting city of Alexandria, Virginia, and the historic Mount Vernon estate, once home to President George Washington. Explore the grandeur of this iconic estate on the banks of the Potomac River, complete with the stately mansion, meticulously maintained gardens, a pioneer farm, and even a functioning distillery and grist mill. Don't miss the chance to savour a sample of Washington's whiskey at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant.

After a morning filled with history and exploration, drive back to Alexandria and check in to your hotel for the night. Along the way, make a stop at The George Washington Masonic National Memorial, an architectural gem dedicated to the Founding Father. In Alexandria's charming Old Town, embark on a leisurely stroll down the King Street Mile, immersing yourself in history and enjoying the city's vibrant atmosphere. Consider joining a walking tour led by an engaging guide to delve deeper into the area's rich heritage. With over 100 independent boutiques to peruse and the chance to witness the intriguing Tiny Spite House, known as the Skinniest Historic House in America, your afternoon will be filled with discoveries. As the day comes to a close, unwind with cocktails at the waterfront's newest gem, Barca Pier & Wine Bar, while enjoying breathtaking views of the Potomac River. Day 4 promises a blend of history, culture, and relaxation in the charming city of Alexandria.

Day 5: Charlottesville / Monticello
Start your day with a scenic drive to Charlottesville, where you'll delve into the rich history of America's third president and founding father, Thomas Jefferson, at his UNESCO World Heritage Site estate, Monticello. Explore the iconic property, gaining insights into the life and legacy of this remarkable figure. Following your enlightening tour of Monticello, take a short drive to Michie Tavern, a historic restaurant that offers a dining experience steeped in southern culture and hospitality - a perfect spot for families to enjoy a traditional lunch.

Upon returning to Charlottesville, embrace the charm of this historic city. Consider visiting The Rotunda at the University of Virginia, an architectural masterpiece with historical significance. Alternatively, you can book a guided walking tour focused on the enthralling history of Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville, providing deeper context to this culturally rich region. Day 5 offers a delightful blend of history, culture, and culinary indulgence in the picturesque setting of Charlottesville.

Day 6: Charlottesville 
Immerse yourself in the historical tapestry of presidential homes today as you explore James Madison's Montpelier and James Monroe's Highland. The morning will be filled with captivating insights into the lives of these influential figures, offering a glimpse into early American history. After this enriching morning, dedicate the rest of your day to the delightful pursuit of discovering your new favourite Virginia wines. With over 40 wineries in the area, the choices are abundant, but we've selected a gem that's just a short drive from James Monroe's Highland—Jefferson Vineyards. This winery holds a special place in history, as it was the very site where Thomas Jefferson and Philip Mazzei cultivated grapes nearly 250 years ago, marking the birth of Virginia's first wine company. Jefferson Vineyards is conveniently only 6 miles away from Charlottesville, making it easily accessible. If you're inclined to savour a few more glasses of wine, consider returning your car to the hotel and utilizing Uber, Lyft, or taxis to reach the vineyard. 

Day 7: Leesburg 
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before setting off for Leesburg, a charming town with a historic downtown that's a vibrant hub of restaurants, cafes, bars, breweries, boutiques, and chic home decor stores. Wander through the bustling streets and immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, exploring the unique shops and savouring the culinary delights the town has to offer.

Later in the day, embark on a short drive to Bluemont Vineyard, where you'll have the opportunity to indulge in both exquisite wine and breathtaking views. Enjoy a memorable wine dinner, savouring the crisp wines and delectable cuisine while surrounded by the sweeping vistas of the valley. Perched atop the Blue Ridge Mountains, Bluemont Vineyards provides the perfect setting to raise a glass in honour of Virginia's winemakers and their exceptional craftsmanship. 

Day 8: Depart  
Begin your last day of the tour with a leisurely breakfast, savouring the final moments of your adventure. Then, prepare for a short drive to the airport for your return flight home. As you make your way, consider making a stop at Dulles Town Centre shopping mall, where you can enjoy some last-minute shopping and indulge in a delicious lunch at the bustling food court. It's a perfect opportunity to pick up souvenirs or treasures to remind you of the wonderful experiences from your journey. With bags filled with memories and perhaps a few new items, bid farewell to Virginia, knowing you've explored its history, savoured its cuisine, and relished its natural beauty.
