Itinerary
Day 1-2: Bangkok, Thailand
The frenetic energy of Thailand’s capital is world-renowned; Bangkok is a melting pot of delicious food, glittering temples and vibrant nightlife. You’ll have three days to explore the city from your sleek base, the fashion-forward Mode Sathorn Hotel - after admiring the skyline from the heated rooftop infinity pool, of course. BTS Surasak station sits across the road from the hotel, connecting you to attractions, such as The Grand Palace, The Temple of the Emerald Buddha and lively Khaosan Road. Of course, the city's vibrant street food scene is a point of national pride, so you'll want to check out spots like Rod Fai Night Market for its wide variety of local specialties. Bangkok's fine dining scene is also worth exploring with many home-grown establishments making it into global dining lists. (Meals: breakfast)
Day 3: Bangkok - Kanchanaburi
If you’re to prepare for this holiday in just one way, let it be this: watch the seven-time-Oscar-winning film The Bridge on the River Kwai, starring Sir Alec Guinness - it’ll give you just a sense of what’s going to make today so poignant. On the way to your next accommodation, you'll visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, before stopping at the iconic Bridge over the River Kwai itself. After lunch at a local restaurant, you'll enjoy an educational visit to the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and descend the long steps behind the museum to the Hellfire Pass Memorial Walking Trail. Then, board a long-tail boat from Phu Takien pier, towards your next base - River Kwai Jungle Rafts. Check in, tuck into dinner, and catch a 45-minute traditional Mon dance. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Day 4: Kanchanaburi
After breakfast, you'll visit a Mon tribal village and learn all about the tribe’s culture by meeting its members, visiting its school and getting stuck into day-to-day activities, like making Tanaka powder (a useful ingredient in many cosmetic products) from the bark of Tanaka trees. Visit the Golden Rock, Buddha image cave and village school before leaving the tribe, to take a short but scenic walk along the river bank to a stunning viewpoint of the Kwai. Enjoy lunch back at your accommodation, and spend the rest of the day at leisure. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Day 5: Kanchanaburi - Bangkok
After breakfast you’ll leave your floating digs and take a long-tail boat to Phu Takien pier for lunch at a local restaurant. After a moving journey on the Death Railway you’ll transfer back to Bangkok. (Meals: breakfast)
Days 6-12: Bangkok - Koh Samui
Your final stop is beautiful Koh Samui; the quintessential island paradise. The Peace Resort nestled on the northeast coast of Koh Samui and idyllic resort for a relaxing beach holiday. If you prefer livelier evening plans, hire a car to Chaweng or Lamai Beach to check out the nightlife spots like Coast Beach Club & Bistro and the Ark Bar.
