Explore Reykjavik and discover the wonders of the Golden Circle and Iceland’s rugged natural beauty. Then fly to Canada and embark on a scenic rail journey beginning in Halifax, travelling through the Maritimes and Quebec toward the vibrant cities of Montreal and Toronto. Follow the historic rail lines that helped shape Eastern Canada’s identity, from coastal heritage to modern urban culture. This is a journey of striking contrasts, geothermal wonders, coastal charm, historic neighbourhoods, and buzzing metropolises.

Itinerary

Day 1–3: Reykjavik
Begin your journey with a three-night stay in Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital. Explore Iceland’s South Shore and experience the legendary Golden Circle tour. Witness geysers erupting from the earth, thundering waterfalls like Gullfoss, and the rift between tectonic plates at Þingvellir National Park. After your Icelandic adventure, board a direct flight to Halifax, Canada.

Day 4: Halifax
Arrive in Halifax and transfer independently to your downtown hotel. Spend the day at leisure, try local seafood along the vibrant waterfront or explore one of the city’s breweries or cosy pubs.

Day 5: Halifax
Use your full day to explore the city’s maritime history and cultural offerings. Visit the Historic Properties, walk the waterfront boardwalk, or climb Citadel Hill for panoramic views. For a deeper dive, consider the optional Best of Halifax Tour with a visit to Peggy’s Cove, a postcard-perfect fishing village famous for its lighthouse.

Day 6: VIA Rail – The Ocean (Halifax to Montreal)
Board VIA Rail’s The Ocean in the early afternoon for your overnight journey to Montreal. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on board as the train winds through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, with views of forests, rivers, and small coastal towns. Relax in your private cabin for two with en suite bathroom, sofa seating, and bunk-style beds.

Day 7: Montreal
Wake to views of the St. Lawrence River as you arrive in Montreal. Transfer independently to your hotel, then explore this cosmopolitan city known for its food, festivals, and French flair. Wander Old Montreal, check out the art galleries or sip coffee in one of the Plateau’s trendy cafes.

Day 8: Montreal
Take a full day to explore. Join an optional guided walking tour of Old Montreal, where you’ll discover centuries-old architecture, the exterior of Notre-Dame Basilica, Place d’Armes, and more. Alternatively, enjoy the city’s bike paths or opt for a Montreal Hop-On Hop-Off Tour for a flexible way to see the city. For a different angle, try the Cavalier Maxim boat cruise and learn about the city’s history from the water.

Day 9: Montreal to Toronto
Travel to Toronto aboard VIA Rail’s Corridor service. Arrive in Canada’s largest city and settle into your hotel. Spend the evening exploring the neighbourhoods, from the chic Distillery District to the bustling Entertainment District.

Day 10: Toronto
Spend your day exploring Toronto at your own pace. Consider hopping on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour to visit CN Tower, Casa Loma, St. Lawrence Market, the Royal Ontario Museum, and more. Or opt for a full-day Niagara Falls tour including time at the Falls, a scenic drive along the Niagara Parkway, and a stop at the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Day 11: Toronto
Enjoy a full day to relax or explore further, shop, eat, take in a museum, or simply soak up the multicultural energy of the city.

Day 12: Depart Toronto
Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home via Iceland.
