Mobile and South Alabama

This historic port city is known as the first capital of the French Louisiana Territory and home of the first American Mardi Gras. Each year the streets of downtown Mobile are filled with the sights and sounds of live marching bands, brilliantly coloured floats and, of course, teeming crowds of parade goers. All year long Mobile features the taste of the coast with fresh delicious seafood from Alabama’s fishing village, Bayou La Batre, depicted in the movie Forrest Gump and located just south of Mobile. As gateway to the beautiful Gulf beaches, Mobile is the ideal base for a golfing break in South Alabama.

The Lakewood Golf Club – Point Clear 36 Holes

The Dogwood Course was completely renovated in 2018, winds in and around marshes and features a spectacular collection of par 3 holes. Look out particularly for the 17th which is surrounded by water on three sides. The Azalea Course, named after the azalea bushes lining many of the fairways, was renovated in 2019. Look out for the spectacular par 3 15th hole which challenges with a carry over water. Both courses offer 5 sets of tees, affording varying degrees of difficulty to challenge differing levels of golfers.

Magnolia Grove – Mobile 54 Holes

The newly renovated courses at Magnolia Grove were recently named one of the “Top 50 Public Courses“ by Golf World Magazine readers. The topography of Magnolia Grove features creeks, marshland and lakes with each of the 54 holes carved through indigenous hardwood and pine.  The Crossings Course which has hosted an LPGA tour and Corn Ferry events, provides an open parkland type course. Several water features and crushed oyster shell waste areas were added during the recent renovations. The Falls Course reopened in 2010 is the only par 71 course on the Trail. The Falls is characterised by large, liberally contoured Mini Verdi greens and massive cloverleaf bunkers. Several holes have been completely redesigned, giving the course a brand-new look. The Short Course was acclaimed by Golf Digest as the best par 3 course in America. Recently renovated The Short Course features several newly designed putting surfaces and is as good a collection of one -shot holes on the championship course.
