Long Island, New York State Golf

September 2022, 15 members of Langland Bay Golf Club visited Long Island, New York State, for a 4 nights golf break as part of their 8 nights golf tour. The group based their stay in Garden City on Long Island, a good central point for travel to the golf courses, bars, and restaurants.
Long Island is a haven for golf courses, with over 140 on the island. Famous courses such as Shinnecock Hills and Bethpage Black, venue for the 2025 Ryder Cup, are located here. Approximately half of these courses, including Bethpage Black, are public golf courses, so every golfer will have the opportunity to play them. However, booking these courses is very restrictive if you are living out of state.
The Langland members were fortunate to play three exceptional and very different golf courses on their visit to Long Island.

The first course played was The Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course, a public golf course located about a 30-minute drive from Garden City. The course was in excellent condition, with tree lined fairways, plenty of hazards and quick but true greens. Course management is key to a good round here. The group were made very welcome by friendly staff.

Second day the group visited The Golf Course at Middle Bay, another public golf course again 30-minutes from Garden City. This was a very different course with a mix of parkland and waterfront golf, with spectacular seaside views. Due to its proximity to the sea, wind is often a factor here. Water is a feature on many holes and greens are well protected. It is a good challenge for golfers of every level.

On the final day the group headed to Huntington Crescent Golf Club, a private course 40-minutes from Garden City. This was far the best course with beautiful manicured, rolling fairways, very fast and undulating greens, and a magnificent clubhouse. Add exceptional staff that made the group feel very welcome at the members only club. This is a very good test of golf reflected in the scores on the day. A pleasure and privilege to play here.

Long Island’s proximity to New York City ensures it is a year-round destination.  In summer head to the famous beaches of The Hamptons, Fire Island, and jones Beach. Check out the charming downtowns of Huntington and Oyster Bay or the bustling entertainment of Rockville Centre. Visit award-winning vineyards or historic Gold Coast Mansions. After a round of golf try the eclectic dining on offer or some retail therapy.
