Explore MoreLocated in western Canada, the province of Alberta is bordered by the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the west and vast prairies and Badlands to the east. To the north lie the Northwest Territories. The state of Montana is our nearest southern neighbour in the United States with which they share an international peace park the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.
Canadian Rockies
No matter how fast you hike, there’s just no way you can get in on every single amazing thing there is to do and see in the Canadian Rockies. For every glacier-fed lake that hypnotizes you, there’s an alpine meadow being munched by a moose family that you’ll miss.
Banff with its picture-perfect scenery and rich history come together in the birthplace of Canada’s national parks system. Endless outdoor adventures are just waiting to be experienced in this mountain town.
Jasper is Alberta’s northern mountain escape. Home to some of the most photographed places in the world. This easy-going alpine town has locals that treat you like long-lost pals and always has something amazing and outdoorsy to do.
Unwind in Lake Louise, an icon of the Canadian Rockies that looks straight out of a postcard. A postcard you can step right into. In winter, the frozen lake is packed with Canadians ice skating in their natural habitat. In summer, hike to the famous tea house, about a two-hour trip upwards. Lake Louise will look like a big turquoise cocktail. Expect to get approximately one billion photo ops and a fierce appetite enroute.
Discover Canmore and Kananaskis and consider these charming mountain retreats your basecamp for adventure. Kananaskis is a stunningly beautiful valley of the Canadian Rockies. Canmore is a stunningly charming mountain town. Together, they make for a stunningly awesome duo filled with adventure, explorations, and amazing food, among other amazing things.
Southern Alberta
Brace yourself for beautiful mountains, forests, prairies, canyons, Canadian Badlands and foothills. All in one place.
Calgary’s got small-town heart and big-city attractions. Between street festivals, nightlife and all the things to do outside, the work-hard, play-hard approach is in this city’s veins. Every July, the Calgary Stampede transforms the city into a Wild West-inspired playground. It’s 10 days of infinite free pancakes.
Visit Drumheller to see the world’s largest dinosaur. The towering replica – 4.5 times the size of a real T-rex – marks the visitor information centre in Drumheller. From there, you can plot your next adventure… Exploring Lethbridge, a former whiskey-trading post built into the rolling prairies. Discover Medicine Hat, one of the sunniest cities in Canada and visit the historic Medalta Clay District or unbelievable rock formations at the nearby Red Rock Coulee.
Northern Alberta
If bears could design their own backyards, they’d make them look like northern Alberta. Leave the human-designed towns and head into the vast boreal forest to learn what ‘outdoors’ really means.
Edmonton, Alberta’s capital city, is a young city that loves any excuse to go out on the town, even in a snowstorm. And there's prime shopping, too. West Edmonton Mall is literally the size of a city, and the Old Strathcona farmers market is famous for a reason.
Fort McMurray is surrounded by hundreds of kilometres of boreal forest, which makes embracing the outdoors daily an easy goal. The 130 km of trails in the city are great for cross-country skiing, casual strolls, cycling or just getting lost. Explore Grande Prairie, a city surrounding the vast tracts of wilderness and a dinosaur hotbed.
